THE HELICOPTER RIDE!!!

You know nothing happens on the great west adventure without an adventure. The first stop we made on the way up to the park on Friday was of course at the Grand Canyon Airport to check on a helicopter ride. After schmoozing the ticket girl the best I could, she took ten bucks off the price of two tickets-woohoo. I almost felt victorious. The last flight out that day was at 4.30 which we booked. She said to show up at 4.00 to go over the procedures? What procedures?? I begged her to let me sit in the front next to the pilot hoping he might let me fly that thing. But then she made Matt and I weigh in. You can guess who they put in back!! Well since it was only about one o'clock we headed up to the park to get our camping space and set up the Magic Bus for three wonderful days in America's busiest park on the busiest weekend of the year. I told you that planning thing was completely overrated.

Well at 3.45 I look at Matt and say it's time to go. He's like why so early, and I'm like they told us to be there at 4.00 to check in. I think you all know where this story is going. We jump on the victory, Matt driving and promptly get lost trying to find the exit out of this freaking place. We were close, like within a couple miles one time when we decided we were going the wrong way and backtracked right to where we started. With each passing minute I see one of my bucket list items disappearing before me. I'm wondering if we miss this flight will they let us reschedule. At about 4.15 we find the exit and at 4.22 we pull into the parking lot of the Grand Canyon Airport. I jump off of the bike before Matt even parks it and beat feet into the lobby. The ticket girl throws something at me to read and says the pilot just called your name a few minutes ago. Anyways we made the flight and below are some of the pictures Matt snapped from 1,500 feet up. Hope you enjoy.

Yeah Yeah Yeah you got the front seat.

Put the fat guy in the back!

P.S. I am scared of heights.

The Colorado River doesn't look so tough from up here!

Yep back on the ground, I didn't get to fly it, but scratch one more off the bucket list!!

  1. Wow! What fantastic pictures. It might make me finally want to visit there. Your heat situation with not being too prepared did make me a little nervous as I was reading. Happy your trip ended well on the scooter ride. Keep the pics and stories coming. Love reading them. God Bless and take care and hugs to you both.
